Opening Reception: Thursday March 12, 7:30PM

Riding Mountain stands apart from the surrounding farmland as a vast expanse of forest, marshland, lakes, and streams. The Elkhorn Resort commissioned Brian Milne to take photographs of this area, inspiring him to begin the project of continuously documenting the landscape that he calls home. After spending many years as a nature photographer around the world, Milne has chosen to focus on this extremely varied place and its inhabitants, both human and animal. In addition to vast stretches of protected Boreal Forest, Riding Mountain is home to the few vestiges of eastern deciduous forest left untouched by agriculture in southern Manitoba, offering a glimpse of this unique ecological zone. Riding Mountain is a point where vastly different ecosystems come together: prairie, boreal, and deciduous life colonies intermingle. Milne suggests that the area presents an "altered state," where its geography shapes the way in which the land is used and inhabited throughout the changing seasons.
