This exhibition of a new body of work by the Brandon-based painter Fay Jelly focuses on the process of editing and adaptation that shapes her practice. Initially a landscape and still life painter inspired by the Impressionist use of brilliant light, Jelly gradually moved into abstraction from paintings of squashes and pomegranates. Taking visual cues from these organic shapes, she developed a process of using fragments from earlier paintings to develop new works.

Her pieces grow out of each other through a process of continual editing, revising, and reconstruction between areas of colour, saturation, and shifting volumes. While each work still contains references to the painting from which it is derived, the fragments acquire a life of their own.
