Revisting early memories of her childhood on a Mennonite farm, Darlene Dersken explores the chain of food production and living off the land: growing fruits and vegetables, collecting and creating preserves, and taking part in cooking practices and traditions. This exhibition of watercolour paintings and ink drawings constitutes a chapter in Geography of Home, Derksen’s larger project of systematically reconstructing her childhood experiences of growing up on the family farm. Through Geography of Home, using archival research, textile work, drawing, painting, and photography, Derksen presents an intimate view of prairie life and her Mennonite family and community.
