The AGSM and BU’s Department of Visual and Aboriginal Art are excited to present a free beading workshop for beginners and seasoned beaders alike, delivered by celebrated contemporary artist and master beader, Judy Anderson.
Judy Anderson is a Cree visual artist from the Gordon First Nation in Saskatchewan. She received her MFA (painting) in 2008 from the University of Regina following her BFA (painting) at the University of Saskatchewan in 2002, as well a BA in Native Studies in 1998also from the U of S. Her studio practice is engaged with a broad range of media, drawing both from the intimacy of family relationships and spirituality, alongside the representation of Aboriginal identity in popular culture. Her studio practice includes work in painting, installation, beadwork, hand-made paper, and sculpture. Recent shows include They told me to honour him…, a solo exhibition at Project Space Gallery, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, School of Art, Melbourne, Australia (2017), and Sole Project, a group show at the Art Gallery of Regina (2016). She is currently an Assistant Professor in Canadian Indigenous Studio Art in the Department of Art at the University of Calgary.
