Although the paleontological work of ceramicist Kevin Conlin interrogates the traces that life leaves behind, it makes no claim that life is contained in his forms. Rather, it frames the spaces and voids that have hosted the mechanisms of transformation, both human and geological, as places of ritual. Although his approach to both art making and fossil collecting is decidedly scientific, it is underlaid with reverent, quiet perception, and a profound sense of the immense timescales in which he co-creates.
