Job Title: Jr. Preparator (Facility Manager’s Aid)

The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba is seeking an energetic and hard-working individual for the position of Jr. Preparator. This position will provide an opportunity for a student to join the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba team, as well as introduce and prepare them with valuable skills related to management and ongoing operations of a Gallery/Museum’s operation. The main objectives of the Jr. Preparator will be to assist the Facility Manager in all duties related to management and ongoing operations of the Gallery and Art Education Program. Over the course of the summer, the student will install several exhibitions, assist with the change over of AGSM programs, help with art conservation, planning and promoting the adult art school program, and performing a variety of technical work such as operating, repairing, and maintaining gallery and art studio equipment.

The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba is a community engaged and inclusive contemporary art gallery located in downtown Brandon, Manitoba. The AGSM is Manitoba’s largest arts organization outside of Winnipeg and has served the broad and diverse population of Southwestern Manitoba for the past 112 years. We have a national reputation for the excellence of our culturally diverse exhibition and education programming.

The successful candidate will have an interest in art or museology, some post-secondary education (Community College, University, technical institute, etc.), and be eligible to work in Canada, as well as meet the YCW requirements.

Eligibility:

This position is funded through the Young Canada Works program. In accordance with YCW guidelines, to be eligible, students must:

  • Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
