12:30-2:00 Working in Collectives: Panel Discussion This panel discussion will explore the growing role of artist collectives within the visual arts sector and the many benefits they offer to artists and communities alike. Panelists will share experiences and insights on how collectives can foster collaboration, reduce isolation, and create supportive creative communities where artists inspire one another and strengthen their artistic practices. Through the exchange of ideas, feedback, skills, and perspectives, working collectively can challenge artists to experiment, grow, and push their work in new directions.

The conversation will also examine how collectives can create opportunities for shared resources, exhibition spaces, advocacy, and professional development, while considering how arts organizations and galleries can better support collective models through programming, funding structures, and community engagement initiatives. Whether emerging or established, artist collectives continue to play an important role in building vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable arts communities.

2:30-4:00 How to Get into Galleries Breaking into galleries can feel challenging or intimidating for visual artists, but understanding the different types of galleries and how they operate can help artists build the right relationships and opportunities for their work. This session will explore practical strategies for approaching both commercial galleries, where artwork is sold on commission, and public or artist-run galleries, where artists are often paid exhibition fees.

Artists will gain insight into how to present their work professionally, navigate applications, and identify opportunities that best fit their artistic goals and career stage. Whether seeking commercial representation or opportunities within artist-run and public gallery systems, this conversation will provide practical tools and insider perspectives to help artists confidently approach the gallery world.
