JANUARY 25 - SNOW PUPPETS: ART YOU CAN PLAY WITH!

Create a magical winter world of small snow people finger puppets, mini-studies, and minions. These miniature puppets can be stored as a cool sculpture centerpiece at home, then the small toys can come out to play, stimulating imagination, storytelling, and offer a fun activity made from recycled materials.

     

FEBRUARY 1 - WINTER WONDERLAND

Inspired by the children’s book Snowmen at Night, students will use their imaginations to create colourful pastel drawings. Celebrate the beauty of winter and aurora borealis; sketch sledding adventures and wondrous winter animals. Learn to draw shapes, create volume, shade, and work with colour. Stay warm and cozy in the art studio with a mug of hot chocolate.

     

FEBRUARY 8 - HANDMADE PAPER VALENTINES

Celebrate environmentally friendly projects with papermaking! Recycle paper and upcycle materials to create a one of a kind gift. Learn where paper comes from and how to blend fibres, mash, press, and mix natural materials into squishy paper pulp! Learn to dry your paper on screens like a pro. Design colourful Valentines and beautiful gifts.

     

FEBRUARY 15 - INTRO TO INDIGENOUS CULTURE THROUGH ART

Explore language and Indigenous culture through art activities. Carly will share images and examples of her artwork with students. Explore your personal identity through drawing, painting, and collage.

     

FEBRUARY 22 - BFF: BUILD A FURRY FRIEND 

Learn creative methods for building your own unique puppet. Students will cut and attach fabric, textiles, and faux fur, then add details such as wings, mustaches, hats, sweaters, tails, and more. Design and construct your own creature with inspiration from Jim Henson.

     

FEBRUARY 29 - INTRODUCTION TO CARTOONING 

Bring your imagination to life as you learn to draw characters. Movies and graphic novels will provide a rich source of inspiration for your paintings and drawings. Have fun with your imagination in this popular class!

     

MARCH 7 - SCULPTING CLAY ANIMALS 

In this clay workshop students will take their skills to a new level. Learn techniques for sculpting eyes, animal features, and texture. Express yourself in the clay studio and build your own animal, whether it be a fox, unicorn, wolf, narwhal or sloth!

     

MARCH 14 - BE AN ART STAR!

Students will learn about the significance of the Star Blanket and explore Indigenous art and culture. Finding inspiration from local murals and public art projects, students will learn how to draw and paint colourful geometric designs on a small and large scale.
