Using the Manitoba Arts Council Art Bank Collection, artist and curator J. J. Kegan McFadden revisits a traumatic experience in his family history - the murder of his great uncle, Alexander Tabolotney (1922 - 1995) by his grandson, Aaron Molodowic. He incorporates traces of Alec's life, such as family photographs and ephemera found on his property, with selections from the Collection that resonate with his personal memories and stories. By coupling mundane objects from Alec's everyday life with over eighty works from the Collection, and his own personal remembering, McFadden brings to the fore the poetics of the everyday: things that we all inhibit but often take for granted. The exhibition will be accompanied by an artist book.
